10 Things You must STOP doing

1. Putting off exercise. Our body works on the “use it or lose it” principle. If your muscles are underused, they will turn to flab. And weight gain can lead to loss of good health.

2. Brushing your teeth in a hurry.Research shows that an unhealthy mouth can contribute to heart disorders.

3. Wolfing down your meals. That’s the mistake most “busy” people make. Eat mindfully—think of meal-time as your gift of time to yourself.

4. Being afraid to delegate. It’s good to want perfection, but don’t let it obsess you to the extent that you trust no one to do anything better than you!

5. Saying ‘No’ when you want to say ‘Yes.’

6. Saying ‘Yes’ when you want to say ‘No.’

7. Checking your email and surfing Facebook constantly. The more socially connected we are, the more disconnected we become from real people. What would you rather have—550 “faceless” Facebook friends, or 5 close friends with whom you meet regularly?

8. Stepping out looking untidy. Long ago, my mother said, “Remember to look neat and tidy, even if you are stepping out to buy a loaf of bread.” I think it was among the best pieces of advice I have ever received.

9. Doing too much for others. If you neglect yourself, there will come a time when you simply won’t have the energy or will to do anything for others.

10. Not doing enough for others. Do you live in a “me-me-me” world? Step out, and put a smile on someone’s face. It feels so good!

Good Thing About ICE CREAM

Ice-cream is a low GI (glycemic-index) food. This means that it is a slow sugar release food that keeps you satisfied for a longer period of time than a high GI food. For that reason, you are less likely to binge after eating ice-cream. 75 grams of Ben and Jerry’s Cookies and Cream ice-cream contains only 114 calories compared to a slice of cheesecake with 511 calories .

Furthermore, ice-cream is made of milk which contains many essential nutrients and vitamins. 1 cup of milk contains up to 30% of a man’s daily recommended intake. Other nutrients in ice-cream are biotin, iodine, potassium, selenium, vitamins a, b12, D, and K. Studies show a possible link between milk consumption and a lowered risk of arterial hypertension, coronary heart disease, colorectal cancer.

Too much sugar is a bad thing. But experts say that "tempting foods" like ice cream actually help us maintain a healthy diet. And in recent years, the frozen food section has undergone somewhat of a transformation. There are actually quite a few "healthy" options out there in the ice cream arena – all-fruit gelato with no added sugar, goat milk treats with more vitamin A and D than their cow milk brethren, and regular old lower fat versions with ingredients you can actually pronounce.

Fact: In the 5th century BC, the ancient Greeks sold snow cones made with fruit and honey in the markets of Athens.

Simple Turmeric and Milk Face Mask

Turmeric is probably not the first thing you think of when you hear the words "face mask."  I just used this face mask myself.  I had a few minutes to relax and decided to whip up a turmeric and milk concoction and was very pleasantly surprised.  I had been reading about the healing powers of turmeric for some time now and the results are very encouraging for the people like you and me!  Read more about the healing powers of turmeric here.

Ingredients:

2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp milk (enough to make a paste)

Directions:

Mix the ingredients together to make a paste.   Don’t worry if the paste seems too runny.  It will thicken and harden on your face.

Using your fingers or cotton swabs, rub the paste over your face, avoiding the eye area.  It doesn’t smell funny–just a little spicy.  Keep the mask on for 15-20 minutes.

You will feel your face start to tighten as the mask dries.  Wash off and rinse with cold water.

My face feels really soft and the turmeric  paste has actually gotten rid of my t-zone shine.  No matter what, my nose always ends up being shiny but this seems to have helped that! Awesome!

Remember! Turmeric stains so make sure you do not get any on your clothes or wear something you don’t mind staining (I just put on an oversized t-shirt that I’ll never wear in public anyway).

Motive & History behind BMW's Logo

BMW AG originated with three other manufacturing companies, Rapp Motorenwerke and Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (BFw) in Bavaria, and Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach in Thuringia. Aircraft engine manufacturer Rapp Motorenwerke became Bayerische Motorenwerke in 1916. The engine manufacturer, which built proprietary industrial engines after World War I, was then bought by the owner of BFw who then merged BFw into BMW and moved the engine works onto BFw's premises. BFw's motorcycle sideline was improved upon by BMW and became an integral part of their business.

The name-change to Bayerische Motoren Werke compelled management to devise a new logo for the company, therefore the famous BMW trademark is designed and patented at this time. However, they remained true to the imagery of the previous Rapp Motorenwerke emblem (which was designed by Karl's brother, Ottmar Rapp). Thus, both the old and the new logo were built up in the same way: the company name was placed in a black circle, which was once again given a pictorial form by placing a symbol within it. By analogy with this, the blue and white panels of the Bavarian national flag were placed at the center of the BMW logo. Not until the late 1920s was the logo lent a new interpretation as representing a rotating propeller.[3] The BMW Trademark, called a "roundel", was submitted for registration on the rolls of the Imperial Patent Office, and registered there with no. 221388 on 10 Dec 1917

Brilliant Uses of Toothpaste

Toothpaste: it whitens, brightens, deodorizes, removes stains, and restores and protects enamel. But toothpaste's cleaning capabilities work wonders on many things besides our teeth. The same ingredients that help polish our pearly whites can also soothe some common ailments, make household items sparkle, and even get rid of stains and pungent smells. Try out these fifteen tricks with a white, non-gel toothpaste (unless otherwise noted), and watch that cavity-fighting, breath-freshening tube of wonder work its magic.

1. Relieve irritation from bug bites, sores, and blisters: These skin irritations all tend to weep and, in the case of bug bites, often itch. Apply a drop of toothpaste to a bug bite or insect sting to stop the itching and decrease any swelling. When applied to sores or blisters, it dries them up, thus allowing the wound to heal faster. It's best when used overnight.

2. Soothe a stinging burn: For minor burns that don't involve an open wound, toothpaste can deliver temporary cooling relief. Apply it delicately to the affected area immediately after a burn develops; it temporarily relieves the sting and prevents the wound from weeping or opening.

3. Decrease the size of a facial blemish: Want to speed up the healing of a zit? Apply a tiny dot of toothpaste to the affected area at night before bed. Wash it off in the morning.

4. Clean up your fingernails: Our teeth are made of enamel, and toothpaste is good for them, so it stands to reason that toothpaste would also be good for our fingernails. For cleaner, shinier, and stronger nails, simply scrub the underneath and tops of fingernails with a toothbrush and toothpaste.

5. Keep hair in place: Gel toothpastes contain the same water-soluble polymers that many hair gels are made of. If you are looking to style and hold an extreme hair creation, try gel toothpaste as your go-to product if you are out of regular hair gel. (This is also a great trick for making baby barrettes stay in place.)

6. Scrub away stinky smells: Garlic, fish, onion, and other pungent foods can permeate the skin cells on our hands. Scrubbing hands and fingertips briefly with toothpaste removes all traces of smelly odors.

7. Remove stains: Toothpaste can make tough stains on both clothing and carpets disappear. For clothes, apply toothpaste directly to the stain and rub briskly until the spot is gone, then wash as usual. (Note that using a whitening toothpaste on colors can sometimes bleach the fabric.) For carpet stains, apply toothpaste to the stain and scrub it with an abrasive brush, then rinse immediately.

8. Spruce up dirty shoes: This tactic works great on running shoes or scuffed-up leather shoes. As with carpet stains, apply toothpaste directly to the dirty or scuffed area, then scrub with a brush and wipe clean.

9. Remove crayon stains on painted walls: Rub a damp cloth with toothpaste gently on the marked-up wall and watch the Crayola marks disappear.

10. Make silver jewelry and other silver pieces sparkle: Rub toothpaste onto jewelry and leave overnight. Wipe clean with a soft cloth in the morning. Make diamonds shine by giving them a gentle scrub using a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a little water. Rinse thoroughly to remove all traces of toothpaste. Do not use this method on pearls, as it will damage their finish.

11. Remove scratches on DVDs and CD's  This remedy has been used with mixed success rates, but it seems to work fairly well on shallow scratches and smudges. Apply a thin coating of toothpaste to the disc and rub gently, then rinse clean.

12. Tidy up piano keys before tickling them: Piano keys retain oil from the skin, which then attracts dust and dirt. Clean away grime gently with a damp, lint-free cloth and toothpaste; after rubbing in the toothpaste, wipe the keys clean with a second lint-free cloth.

13. Deodorize baby bottles: If baby bottles develop a sour-milk smell, a good cleaning with some toothpaste and a bottle scrubber will clean away residue and deodorize. Always make sure to rinse well.

14. Remove the burned crust on irons: For those of you who still use an iron, you may find that after time, the plate of the iron develops a burned crust. The silica in toothpaste gently grinds away this rusty-looking layer.

15. Defog goggles: Scuba divers, swimmers, and triathletes may already know about this handy little trick: Rub a small spot of toothpaste into each lens of your goggles, then rinse thoroughly, and voila! There'll be no need to ever buy expensive defogger gels again. Avoid rubbing too vigorously, though, as the abrasive ingredients in toothpaste could scratch the lenses.

Tips for Tablet and Smartphone Users to Prolong Battery Power

When traveling frequently the battery consumption of your device of Smartphone might bother you. You might still be thinking about how to save on power or to find means for charging your Smartphone. The most essential thing to keep in mind is managing the battery power when it comes to your mobile devices. You need not be a technology genius to discover means for keeping the battery power running for long hours.

The best way is to discover the means to make the battery power last long by extending its power. Let us learn how to prolong your battery power with just three tips.

Following are the three essential tips to prolong battery power:

#1 Turning off automatic exchange of data

Initially the most overlooked fact about your device or Smartphone is the unwanted power consuming programs that keep running. For example, Wi-Fi, Data exchange, GPS, these are such services that keep running on background and consume a lot of battery power. This results in battery drain. Remember, whenever your device is exchanging data through GPS or Online service the battery power of your device is being compromised. You can change the settings for these services by disabling them. Take for instance the automated e-mail exchange and updates that happen all day long. Another example can be apps like Google. Create settings to turn these off when not in use. Manually turn it off when you are done using these services.

Another battery-consuming feature is the screen light. If your Smartphone or Tablet screen is brightly lit all the time then it will soon drain out the power of the battery. It is advisable to dim the screen of your mobile device and create settings for standby mode; this comes handy when you have left your device idle. If you further want to manage battery power then opt for apps that help in indicating battery consumption. You can download apps like Battery Life Pro (iPhone), for Android users JuiceDefender and Battery Magic. Downloading an app like these will generate a list of programs or services that are consuming battery along with the exact percentage.

#2 Portable power backup

It is not always possible to turn off the features, automatic e-mail fetching, notifications, especially when you are on a business trip. You need to be connected constantly with the latest business update. The best that you can do is to carry extra power. Carrying portable battery for your device is the best option for keeping your mobile device powered up for long and in situations where you do not get time for charging up.

Look for portable batteries so that you can connect it to your mobile device. If you are specifically looking for a Smartphone battery option then you can go with myCharge (Commerce Township). However, the best example of portable batteries are universal extended batteries these are compatible with all your mobile devices. You can even opt for a power pack that can help charge your mobile device like myCharge universal pack ($50) compatible with USB plug-ins and even Apple devices.

Another interesting thing that you can do is use a Snap-on battery. You can use the one provided by Mophie called Juice Pack it doubles up like a case and charger especially for iPhone users. Now you can charge and talk simultaneously. The pricing of this unit is around $80. As far as Android users are concerned PowerSkin is an option by Costa Mesa ($70).

If you are the one who is used to carrying multiple mobile devices for your business trip then you can go for a Powerbag ($140). This solar-powered backpack contains in-built battery for charging a laptop including 4 mobile devices. If you are specifically looking for a tablet-charging bag then you can go for Voltaic Systems (solar energy powered) priced at $300.

#3 Drive and charge

The best way to charge your mobile gadgets while driving is using a USB adapter. This is also the most economical way of charging your device as it costs around $20 or even less. However, you must remember that as convenient these charging options can be they are also risky. Electronic system with continuous charge flowing may overheat and cause damage the charging device. You must not leave it plugged it in for long time. Another thing to keep in mind is to unplug when you start off or turn down the ignition.

The above given tips will definitely help you in keeping your mobile gadgets keep powered on for long. In addition, these will help you in staying connected to your network while on the go.

Couple Celebrates 80th Wedding Anniversary, Shares Secrets to Lasting Marriage

On Nov. 25, 1932, FDR had just defeated Herbert Hoover, the daily newspaper cost two cents, and
Ann Shawah said "I do" to John Betar in Harrison, N.Y.
Fast forward through 13 presidents and 80 years to 2012: the Betars are still happily married. After five children, 14 grandchildren and 16 great children, the couple from Fairfield, Conn., will celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary Sunday.
"We are so blessed. We are fortunate," John Betar, 101, said.
"We are very fortunate. It can be repeated and repeated," Ann, 97, echoed. "It is unconditional love and understanding. We have had that. We consider it a blessing."
Humble Beginnings
John Betar met Ann Shawah growing up in the same Syrian community in Bridgeport, Conn. Betar immigrated to America as a young child in 1921 with his brother, he explained, joining his father who put down roots for them in Bridgeport. After attending grammar school, Betar began working as a fruit peddler and met Ann Shawah, the daughter of Syrian immigrants, in the neighborhood.
"I fell for her right away," he said. "I used to have a Ford Roaster and I used to pick her and her friends and drive them to high school. Gradually she liked me and we got together."
It was slightly more complicated than that. Ann was arranged to be married to another man, 20 years her senior, whom her parents thought would be the best provider for their daughter. The 17-year-old was less than pleased with the arrangement and taken with Betar, then 21. Breaking with tradition and going against her family's wishes, the two eloped.
"At 17, you wonder if you're making the right choice," she said. "I had grown up with him and we had good times together and we knew each other very well. And it's turned out to be 80 years. ….God seems to have been with us. And we've been very fortunate and wonderful."
The two built a life together, a home, a family and lived out their own version of the American dream. Betar continued peddling fruit and in 1938, opened up his own grocery store, Betar's Market, in the south end of Bridgeport.
"We worked hard and never got tired of making money," he said. "This is the land of opportunity."
Ann stayed at home and raised their children. "She was a great mother," Betar said. "She raised five children and she was a wonderful caretaker."
Five children spawned 14 grandchildren and 16 great children. The couple said the later generations "bring new life" and light into their lives.
"Last year at [John's] 100th birthday party ... there was group of little 2 year olds and 5 year olds and a group that's just turning 19 and 20," Ann recalled. "We had it at the beach and we had fireworks. It was very special. The younger children went out on the beach and wrote 'Happy Birthday Jiddo,' [Grandpa in Arabic], in the sand, all along the beach. ... How can you not feel God's right with you and blessing you?"
Along with joyous moments and good memories like this one came bad times for the Betars.
"The hardest thing in our life was losing two of our children. That's the sad part. It's one of the worst thing a parent can face is losing a child, no matter how old they are or how young they are," Ann said.
But despite the trying moments that can test or break a marriage, the two have stayed together.
"There are so many things in a lifetime that can make you very, very happy and very, very sad, but if you can do it together then it's happiness," Ann said.
That's easier said than done for many couples today in the U.S. where the divorce rate hovers around 40 to 50 percent. What's their secret?
"They have this wonderful ability to accept life as it comes," their daughter Renee Betar said. "They have a way of trying to look around at the things that they do have -- the family and the blessings. They came from a generation where there is such respect for each other and caring."
The Betars consider themselves "fortunate." Hesitant to dole out advice to newlyweds, they each offered simple, guiding mantras to a lasting marriage.
"Get along. Compromise. Live within your means and be content," Betar said, before adding, "And let your wife be the boss."
"We don't have bosses," she said. Her advice: don't hold a grudge.
"You know what your commitments are and you try to live by them and understand one another. If you don't hold a grudge, you can face anything," Ann said.
The couple still lives independently on the beach in Fairfield and has kept active, pushing the boundaries of aging. In their later years, Ann discovered a hidden talent as an artist and took up painting in oils and watercolors. The two cook soup together, always from scratch. (The retired fruit peddler-turned-grocer continues to make outings to shop for the best produce and can't help but dispense recommendations to fellow customers at the store, his daughter reports, saying: "Oh no, don't buy that tomato if you want to eat it tonight.") They spend their days reading and proudly keeping up with what's going on in the world.
Celebrating 80 Years of Marriage
On Sunday, the couple will mark their 80th wedding anniversary with a quiet celebration surrounded by family and friends at the St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church in Bridgeport, where they are original founding members.
Ann said one of her daughters ordered a cake for the occasion and the baker called back, slightly confused, to confirm that it should read -- "Happy 80th Anniversary" instead of "Happy 80th Birthday."
After eighty years, Betar is still sweet on his bride and she is still sweet on him.
"He is a wonderful man. He is a very giving man to his children, to his family, to people that need it. He is a very generous, giving man," she said. "Can you blame me for living with him for 80 years?"
To the later generations of children and grandchildren, the Betars serve as role models for how to live and love in life.
"I'm always blown away by their incredible optimism, deep sense of compassion and modesty," said granddaughter Heather Mitchell of Fairfield, Conn. "They are true beacons -- inspirational people who emit such joy without even knowing it."

9 Fruits You Can Use to Replace Medications

1. Apricot. Apricots contain beta-carotene which stops radicals from damaging the inner structures of the organism and it is also very useful for our eyes. Health Benefits Of Eating Kidney Beans

Health Benefits Of Eating Kidney Beans

• Being a major source of protein, kidney beans provide all the eight basic forms of amino acids or the eight essential amino acids. These amino acids act against a number of diseases and are important to maintain a healthy immune system. It is estimated that a single cup of uncooked beans provides around 85% of the daily protein requirement.

• Certain natural antioxidants (anthocyanins) present in these beans also have a number of beneficial health effects. Studies have revealed that the darker the color of the skin of the beans, the higher these antioxidants.

• The soluble fiber present in the kidney bean regulates the blood glucose absorption from the body. This is done by forming a gel-like substance, by absorbing water from the intestines. This gel-like substance slows down the metabolism of carbohydrates in the body, thereby regulating the blood sugar levels and preventing their sudden elevation after meals. Hence, it is essential for diabetics (insulin resistance) to consume kidney beans on a regular basis.

• The dietary fiber in these beans also helps lower the blood cholesterol levels in the body. This is achieved by the bonding of the fiber with the bile acids in the intestines. As the bile acids are used for the synthesis of cholesterol, their bonding with the dietary fibers results in lesser availability of the acids for the synthesis of cholesterol. Hence, the risk of certain diseases, like stroke, high blood pressure and coronary heart disease, is reduced to a considerable extent.

• A high source of certain nutrients involved in the process of detoxification, kidney beans reduce the risk of a number of inflammatory, degenerative and cardiovascular diseases and also help promote and maintain optimal health.

• As these beans prove to be a high source of iron, their regular intake helps in the process of respiration at the cellular level, by synthesizing hemoglobin to aid in the carriage of oxygen to the cells.

• Kidney beans also have considerable amount of the mineral molybdenum, which helps in the detoxification of sulfates from the blood.

• The copper present in these beans aids in the reduction of inflammatory conditions like Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). They also act as an important factor in promoting certain enzymatic activity that is required to maintain the normal elastic properties of ligaments, joints and blood vessels.

• The magnesium in kidney beans helps relieve fatigue by relaxing the muscles, nerves and blood vessels. This, in turn, prevents the adverse effects of conditions like asthma, muscle soreness, and migraine headaches.

• A prime effect of consuming kidney bean is prevention of conditions like stroke, heart attack and PVD (Peripheral Vascular Disease). This is done with the help of frolic acid present in the plant. The frolic acid lowers the levels of homo-cysteine (a potentially dangerous molecule), which is produced as a result of the metabolic process of methylation. Elevated levels of this molecule lead to the above mentioned harmful and life-threatening conditions.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF APPLE

We're told that an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but what exactly are the health benefits of apples? Here are ten reasons to heed the advice of that old proverb:

1. BONE PROTECTION
French researchers found that a flavanoid called phloridzin that is found only in apples may protect post-menopausal women from osteoporosis and may also increase bone density. Bor
on, another ingredient in apples, also strengthens bones

2. ASTHMA HELP
One recent study shows that children with asthma who drank apple juice on a daily basis suffered from less wheezing than children who drank apple juice only once per month. Another study showed that children born to women who eat a lot of apples during pregnancy have lower rates of asthma than children whose mothers ate few apples

3. LUNG CANCER PREVENTION
According to a study of 10,000 people, those who ate the most apples had a 50 percent lower risk of developing lung cancer. Researchers believe this is due to the high levels of the flavonoids quercetin and naringin in apples

4. BREAST CANCER PREVENTION
A Cornell University study found that rats who ate one apple per day reduced their risk of breast cancer by 17 percent. Rats fed three apples per day reduced their risk by 39 percent and those fed six apples per day reduced their risk by 44 percent

5. COLON CANCER PREVENTION
One study found that rats fed an extract from apple skins had a 43 percent lower risk of colon cancer. Other research shows that the pectin in apples reduces the risk of colon cancer and helps maintain a healthy digestive tract

6. LIVER CANCER PREVENTION
Research found that rats fed an extract from apple skins had a 57 percent lower risk of liver cancer

7. ALZHEIMER'S PREVENTION
A study on mice at Cornell University found that the quercetin in apples may protect brain cells from the kind of free radical damage that may lead to Alzheimer's disease.

8. LOWER CHOLESTEROL
The pectin in apples lowers LDL ("bad") cholesterol. People who eat two apples per day may lower their cholesterol by as much as 16 percent

9. DIABETES MANAGEMENT
The pectin in apples supplies galacturonic acid to the body which lowers the body's need for insulin and may help in the management of diabetes

10. WEIGHT LOSS
A Brazilian study found that women who ate three apples or pears per day lost more weight while dieting than women who did not eat fruit while dieting

Health benefits of sweet potato

Superior fiber content
Sweet potatoes contain almost twice as much fiber as other types of potatoes. Contributing close to 7 grams of fiber per serving, they make an excellent starchy addition to any meal. The high fiber content gives them a "slow burning" quality. This basically means their caloric energy is used more slowly and efficiently than a low-fiber carbohydrate.

Heart-healthy
They contain a large amount of vitamin B6. This vitamin is crucial in breaking down a substance called homocysteine, which contributes to hardening of the arteries and blood vessels. Vitamin B6 helps keep the walls of these important blood passageways flexible and healthy which allows blood to flow freely.

In addition, sweet potatoes contain high amounts of potassium. Potassium plays an important role in lowering blood pressure by ridding the body of excess sodium and regulating fluid balance. It is also an important electrolyte that helps regulate the natural rhythm of the heart, and maintains normal function of the brain and central nervous system.

Rich in beta-carotene
Beta-carotene or vitamin A is an important antioxidant. One medium sweet potato provides your body with the complete recommended daily allowance of vitamin A and then some. Vitamin A is useful in the prevention of several different types of cancer as it is one of the most potent antioxidants out there.

Beta-carotene also helps to internally protect your skin from sun damage by both deflecting and repairing cell damage caused by excessive UV exposure. It also is an excellent nutrient for eye health and has been linked to prevention of vision loss and macular degeneration.

A great source of manganese
Manganese is a little-discussed trace mineral that has some great health benefits. It is a pivotal component in the metabolism of carbohydrates which helps support healthy blood sugar levels. This can help stabilize the appetite for hours as opposed to the temporary satisfaction that comes with most other carbohydrates.

It also is a cofactor in enzymes that play an important role in the generation of energy as well as the efficient utilization of antioxidants. It is used for the treatment of anemia and is useful as a treatment for several premenstrual symptoms in women as well.

Rich in vitamins C and E
As if being one of the top vegetable sources of beta-carotene weren't enough, sweet potatoes are also rich in vitamins C and E. These are potent antioxidant vitamins that play an important role in disease prevention and longevity.

Both vitamins also play a huge role in the health and beauty of your skin and hair, making them popular supplements. The combination of beta-carotene, vitamin E and vitamin C in one food makes the sweet potato one heck of a "beauty food". These nutrients all contribute to a healthy, glowing complexion and vibrant hair.

5 Simple Ways to Increase Your Intelligence

1. Minimize Television Watching – This is a hard sell. People love vegetating in front of the television, myself included more often than I’d like. The problem is watching television doesn't use your mental capacity OR allow it to recharge. It’s like having the energy sapped out of a muscle without the health benefits of exercise.
When you feel like rel
axing, try reading a book instead. If you’re too tired, listen to some music. When you’re with your friends or family, leave the tube off and have a conversation. All of these things use your mind more than television and allow you to relax.

2. Exercise – I used to think that I’d learn more by not exercising and using the time to read a book instead. But I realized that time spent exercising always leads to greater learning because it improves productivity during the time afterwards. Using your body clears your head and creates a wave of energy. Afterwards, you feel invigorated and can concentrate more easily.

3. Read Challenging Books – Many people like to read popular suspense fiction, but generally these books aren’t mentally stimulating. If you want to improve your thinking and writing ability you should read books that make you focus. Reading a classic novel can change your view of the world and will make you think in more precise, elegant English. Don’t be afraid to look up a word if you don’t know it, and don’t be afraid of dense passages. Take your time, re-read when necessary, and you’ll soon grow accustomed to the author’s style.

Once you get used to reading challenging books, I think you’ll find that you aren't tempted to go back to page-turners. The challenge of learning new ideas is far more exciting than any tacky suspense-thriller.

4. Early to Bed, Early to Rise – Nothing makes it harder to concentrate than sleep deprivation. You’ll be most rejuvenated if you go to bed early and don’t sleep more than 8 hours. If you stay up late and compensate by sleeping late, you’ll wake up lethargic and have trouble focusing. In my experience the early morning hours are the most tranquil and productive. Waking up early gives you more productive hours and maximizes your mental acuity all day.

If you have the opportunity, take 10-20 minute naps when you are hit with a wave of drowsiness. Anything longer will make you lethargic, but a short nap will refresh you.

5. Take Time to Reflect – Often our lives get so hectic that we become overwhelmed without even realizing it. It becomes difficult to concentrate because nagging thoughts keep interrupting. Spending some time alone in reflection gives you a chance organize your thoughts and prioritize your responsibilities. Afterwards, you’ll have a better understanding of what’s important and what isn't  The unimportant stuff won’t bother you anymore and your mind will feel less encumbered.

I’m not saying you need to sit on the floor cross-legged and chant ‘ommm’. Anything that allows a bit of prolonged solitude will do. One of my personal favorites is taking a solitary walk. Someone famous said, “All the best ideas occur while walking.” I think he was on to something. Experiment to find the activity that works best for you.

Danger of eating White Bread

The Swiss government has been aware of the dangers of eating white bread for decades and in order to get i ts populace to stop eating it, Switzerland has placed a tax on the purchase of white bread. The tax money is given to bakers to reduce the price of whole wheat bread to encourage people to switch.

The Canadian government passed a law prohibiting the “enrichment” of white bread with synthetic vitamins. Bread must contain the original vitamins found in the grain, not imitations.

Essentially, white bread is “dead” bread. Frequently, consumers are not told the truth about this and so called “enriched” flour.
Why is the color of white bread so white when the flour taken from wheat is not?

It’s because the flour used to make white bread is chemically bleached, just like you bleach your clothes. When you are eating white bread, you are also eating residual chemical bleach.Flour mills use different chemical bleaches, all of which are pretty bad.

Here are a few of them: oxide of nitrogen, chlorine, chloride, nitrosyl and benzoyl peroxide mixed with various chemical salts.

One bleaching agent, chloride oxide, combined with whatever proteins are still left in the flour, produces alloxan. Alloxon is a poison and has been used to produce diabetes in laboratory animals.
Chlorine oxide destroys the vital wheat germ oil. It will also shorten the flour’s shelf life.

Good Nutrition: You won’t find it In White Bread In the process of making flour white, half of the good unsaturated fatty acids, that are high in food value, are lost in the milling process alone, and virtually all the vitamin E is lost with the removal of wheat germ and bran.
As a result, the remaining flour in the white bread you buy, contains only poor quality proteins and fattening starch. But that is not the whole story as to the loss of nutrients.
Scientific Study Has Confirmed What The Swiss Have Known For Years These horrific numbers are the results of a study run by the University of California, College of Agriculture. It is obvious, from what we have learned, that white bread should be avoided.
Whole wheat, rye and grain breads made with whole wheat flour is a better way. It is a good idea to always read the labels and never buy foods that contain artificial flavors, colors, bleached flour, preservatives, hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils.
