Astronomers discover planet made of diamond

Astronomers discover planet made of diamond!!!![ Astronomers have spotted an exotic planet that seems to be made of diamond racing around a tiny star in our galactic backyard.]

(Reuters) - Astronomers have spotted an exotic planet that seems to be made of diamond racing around a tiny star in our galactic backyard.

The new planet is far denser than any other known so far and consists largely of carbon. Because it is so dense, scientists calculate the carbon must be crystalline, so a large part of this strange world will effectively be diamond.

"The evolutionary history and amazing density of the planet all suggest it is comprised of carbon -- i.e. a massive diamond orbiting a neutron star every two hours in an orbit so tight it would fit inside our own Sun," said Matthew Bailes of Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne.

Lying 4,000 light years away, or around an eighth of the way toward the center of the Milky Way from the Earth, the planet is probably the remnant of a once-massive star that has lost its outer layers to the so-called pulsar star it orbits.

Pulsars are tiny, dead neutron stars that are only around 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) in diameter and spin hundreds of times a second, emitting beams of radiation.

In the case of pulsar J1719-1438, the beams regularly sweep the Earth and have been monitored by telescopes in Australia, Britain and Hawaii, allowing astronomers to detect modulations due to the gravitational pull of its unseen companion planet.

The measurements suggest the planet, which orbits its star every two hours and 10 minutes, has slightly more mass than Jupiter but is 20 times as dense, Bailes and colleagues reported in the journal Science on Thursday.

In addition to carbon, the new planet is also likely to contain oxygen, which may be more prevalent at the surface and is probably increasingly rare toward the carbon-rich center.

Its high density suggests the lighter elements of hydrogen and helium, which are the main constituents of gas giants like Jupiter, are not present.

Just what this weird diamond world is actually like close up, however, is a mystery.

"In terms of what it would look like, I don't know I could even speculate," said Ben Stappers of the University of Manchester. "I don't imagine that a picture of a very shiny object is what we're looking at here.

Solar energy

Solar energy is becoming popular in recent times.  People started building various devices and equipments which work with solar energy  The main reasons for using solar energy are as follow.
1.  Solar energy is freely available in abundance in this universe.
2.  Solar energy never gets exhausted unlike other sources of energy
3. Solar energy is available at each and every place in this world

Here are some of the interesting facts about Solar Energy.

A solar powered air craft from USA flew 4060 Km. in the year 1990 without no other fuel except solar energy.  This was the world record.
More sun light falls on this earth in one hour than what is used by the entire world population in one year
The Solar Energy is better for environment compared to traditional forms of energy
It is possible to cook food using solar energy
A home solar system typically contains solar panels, an inverter, a battery, a charge controller and wiring support structure.
A 1-kilowatt home solar system will prevent approximately 170 lbs. of coal from being burned, 300 lbs of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere and 105 gallons of water from being consumed each month!
Solar panels come in different colors.
Solar energy does not pollute the air nor does it release carbon di oxide into atmosphere.

Jonathan Ive, a man behind " i " of Apple

Jonathan Ive, a man behind " i " , lead designer and conceptual mind behind Apple's products, including the iMac[this was his first prototype, and ' i ' stands for 'internet' ], MacBook Air, iPod, iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad.

Ive has more operational power than anyone at Apple, aside from the CEO.

The late Apple co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs stated during an interview with biographer Walter Isaacson that no one at Apple can tell Ive what to do – "that's the way I set it up."

Ive is credited with helping the late Steve Jobs bring the consumer-electronics company back from the brink of financial ruin in the late 1990s with his whimsical design for the iMac computer, which originally came in bright colors at a time bland shades dominated the PC world.

In 1992, while Jobs was still in the midst of a 12-year exile from Apple, Ive was hired as a senior designer.

After Jobs returned, he and Ive worked closely, ushering in products that are sleek and stylish, with rounded corners, few buttons, brushed aluminum surfaces and plenty of slick glass.

Apple's pride in this work is evident even in the packaging: Open up any iPhone box, for example, and see Apple proudly proclaim, ``Designed by Apple in California.'' Six of Ive's works, including the original iPod, are part of the collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Sharks Facts

Sharks are fish. However, they do not have bones like other fish. Their skeleton is made of cartilage. This is the same bendable material that is in your ears! They also do not have a swim bladder, the air filled balloon-like organ that keeps most fish upright. Sharks have gill slits but no gill-cover, which is common to most bony fish. Because they have no swim bladder to keep them buoyant, sharks sink when not swimming. Shark's bodies are heavier than water and most sharks are constantly on the move. By moving forward with their mouths open, sharks move water across their gills for breathing. The larger species produce live young that are fully formed, miniature versions of their parents. Mother sharks offer no food or protection for their young. Young sharks do have a fighting chance, though, as they are born with a full set of teeth and the ability to swim.. The list of amazing and funny facts about different kind of sharks are given below:

* The Whalefish Shark is the largest fish in the ocean. It can reach up to 50 feet and weigh about 30 tons. The whalefish eats plankton. It swims in warm waters near the equator. It filters meals as it swims with its mouth open. It is not threat to humans
* Just as humans rule the land, sharks rule the sea! Many people fear sharks, because they hear stories about sharks killing and eating humans. Actually, most sharks are not dangerous!
* Sharks never get cancer! Their cartilage is used in being studied with the hope of developing anti-cancer drugs.
* The dwarf shark is as small as your hand, while the whale shark can be as large as a school bus!
* A shark may grow and use over 20,000 teeth in its lifetime!
* Sharks never run out of teeth. If one is lost, another spins forward from the rows and rows of backup teeth.
* Sharks even eat other sharks. For example, a tiger shark might eat a bull shark, a bull shark might eat a blacktip shark and a blacktip shark might eat a dogfish shark!
* The whale shark is up to 46 feet (14 m), weighing up to 15 tons. The average size is 25 feet (7.6 m) long It is the largest fish in the world. Females are larger than males (like most sharks).
* It has been estimated that whale sharks may live up to 100 - 150 years.
* A shark's hunger can be satisfied with one good meal. The meal can last a long time because a shark uses little energy to swim. Some sharks hold food in their stomachs without it being digested. If they eat a big meal, it can last three or more months!

* Sharks have existed for over 350 million years. They evolved over 100 million years before the dinosaurs did. This was long before people evolved.

Black Hole Swallows a Star

Black Hole Swallows a Star

These images, taken with NASA's Galaxy Evolution Explorer and the Pan-STARRS1 telescope in Hawaii, show a brightening inside a galaxy caused by a flare from its nucleus. The arrow in each image points to the galaxy. The flare is a signature of the galaxy's central black hole shredding a star that wandered too close.

The top left image, taken by the Galaxy Evolution Explorer in 2009, shows the galaxy's location before the flare. The galaxy is not visible in this ultraviolet-light exposure. In the top right image, taken by the Galaxy Evolution Explorer on June 23, 2010, the galaxy has become 350 times brighter in ultraviolet light.

The bottom left image, taken by Pan-STARRS1, shows the galaxy (the bright dot in the center) in 2009 before the flare's appearance. The bottom right image, taken by Pan-STARRS1 from June to August 2010, shows the flare from the galaxy nucleus. Note how the light from the flare is much bluer, or hotter, than the host galaxy light.
